What's Tin disulfide?

Tin disulfide - an inorganic compound that has chemical formula SnS2. It is an orange hexagonal flake with it's CdI2 crystal structure. It isn't really soluble in the water but is soluble in aqua regia and hot alkaline liquids, and also soluble in sodium sulfide Solution, frequently used to create golden paint.

Tin disulfide will dissolve in hot alkali and in aqua regia solution. It is also able to undergo coordination reactions with concentrated hydrochloric acid. However, it's imsoluble within dilute hydrochloric acid, insoluble in water, and Nitric acid. It is also capable of resolving with ammonium sulfide to dissolve.

How do you make tin disulfide?

Tin disulfide is produced by directly combining tin and sulfur with the iodine. The reaction requires the heating process:

Sn + 2 S --- SnS2

Another option is to pour hydrogen sulfide in solution of tin (IV) salt or tin (IV) salt solution and precipitate it.

Electrochemical properties of multi-walled carbon nanotubes held in to tin disulfide, the negative electrode for lithium ion battery

The direct current arc plasma method was used to prepare multi-walled carbon-carbon nanotube-confined metal nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as the precursor under a methane atmospheric environment. Then SnS_2@MWCNT was obtained by the sulfurization reaction. The results of the physical characterization of the materials, such as Raman, Xray diffraction (XRD) as well as the transmission electron microscope (TEM) proved that the length of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes were about 400nm. A new composite material composed of SnS2 combined with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) has been prepared using an easy solvothermal procedure. It was found to have excellent electrochemical characteristics after being used as the negative electrode of the lithium ion battery. At a current density of 1 A/g, even after 100 cycles, it still keeps a reversible reversible particular capacity of about 510 amps/g. To illustrate, we applied this same method to create one SnS2 material and then conduct an electrochemical analysis on it. Results indicate that although the initial capability of SnS2 material is quite large, the performance of its cycles is poorand will begin to decline after only 20 cycles.
